My BFF in the whole wide world, Mary, said something that inspired me today. I had written an email to someone trying to be as PC, as socially proper, and just plain nice as could be...and still get MY way, of course. She said:

Damn, Laura. You sound good!

I think what you have said sounds very nice and sweet, and trying so hard to avoid making a faux pas should make up for any faux pas that you might make.

I told her that I always sound good. I always got KUDOS for this sorta writing at work, and now I should figure out a way to make money at it.

Before I continue with how Mary inspired me, I want to tell you about Mary. Mary and I are friends, great friends, maybe even best friends. Funny about Mary and my relationship...we weren't childhood friends, we weren't really even high school friends. We met half way through her senior year, then she went away to school a few months later. Our entire relationship has been long distance. I don't think that we have ever lived in the same town...ever! Mary is also, by far, the smartest person that I know. She not only has multiple degrees, but even after a night of partying can crawl in bed and read a book..such as The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. A book that I tried to read sober, and could barely began. Hell, even the movie with two of my faves Christian Slater and Sean Connery left me wondering....Wait! What? You get the picture. Well, she completely floored me not too long ago, by saying that I was one of the smartest people that she knew. Who knew? Little ole me? We obviously have our talents, and thankfully are impressed by each others. I have the gift to gab, possibly write, and novice computer skills...and she has well...everything else. No, I take that back....I think I can party better than she...oh, no wait, she lives in New Orleans, which throws me outta her partying league completely. She is also one of the funniest people that I have ever met.

So....I guess all this jabber is exactly how Mary inspired me. I really want to start blogging again. I will give a disclaimer.....no email, comments, or messages sent to me are safe. They may and will appear here. I mean from any program. Hell, maybe even snail mail. I can't divulge the email volley that I was telling Mary about, just yet...but look for it soon. Here we go...hold on!

I am not exactly sure when it happened sometime in the last few weeks, but it dawned on me....MY LIFE IS AWESOME! I almost said perfect, but not sure that I want it perfect. (too many BAD connotations) but yes...my life right now is the best that it has ever been. I have a great balance of friends, work, and family. My job is the greatest. Why did I ever leave the restaurant business in the first place? I am at home there. I love talking to people...I love meeting people. I love watching the social interactions of the people that come in.

Yesterday I was sitting at the Bayside Grill with Cindy. We were thumbing thru a GT Woman magazine. There was a NW mortgage ad in there, with a new lady that they hired as a mortgage officer. I said, "that would've been me last year at this time." Cindy said, "Well, I am glad it is her, not you, because you wouldn't be sitting here with me right now." Did I mention it was Monday afternoon...and the day was unbelievably perfect...full sun and a light breeze? Yes..sitting in the marina on a Monday was a much better place in a dull and boring office. YAY ME!

So work is fabulous....so is my social life. I have lived in Northport about 10 years. And yes, I have had friends...but over the past few months I have really forged a bond with them. Yes, I can get in trouble, because I like to hang out too much...but I am the bad influence...not them...hahaha

Which brings me to the next segment of my life...and I hope I don't jinx myself for talking about it. Chris and I are actually getting along better than ever. IDK...maybe after 11 years of marriage we finally get each other. He knows that I am going to stay out way too late....and I know that he is going to be an asshole...haha just kidding. Maybe this is a first time that one or both of us weren't depressed. His house project has been keeping him busy and happy!!!!

So that is it in a nutshell!!!! Life is grand!!! I love it!!! And I just heard that the detour is off my street....yahoooooo!!!

Dear Ambassador,

I can't believe it's Derby time again already.

Of course things are getting a little crazy around here as they always
do this time of year. But I thought I'd take a moment to answer a
couple of the more common questions I hear whenever Derby rolls
around.

First, the hats. What's with all the funny hats? Well, those are
simply a matter of tradition. When the Derby began in 1875, it was a
social event of the highest order. So women wanted to be seen and look
their best, and hats were an essential part of their attire. Now it's
a tradition that's managed to carry on for 134 years.

And what about the Mint Julep? Where'd it come from? To the best of my
knowledge, it first appeared in America in the 1700s somewhere on the
east coast. More importantly however, juleps made their way to the
Derby in 1938, where they were sold for just $0.75 per glass! For one
reason or another, people fell in love with the concoction, and now no
Derby is complete without them.

Speaking of the Mint Julep, we've got a pretty darn good recipe we use
here in Kentucky. We've put it on the Ambassador Web site in the
What's New section along with some info on a few Derby parties going

Lastly, I want to announce one more reason to celebrate - Kevin Smith.
Kevin was just promoted to the position of Master Distiller, one of
the highest honors in the bourbon industry, and we're proud to have
him on our team at Maker's Mark. Congratulations, Kevin.

With that said, here's to a fun and safe Derby weekend. Who knows,
maybe we'll run into each other at the track.

you know every time i think that i am the biggest internet geek that I know, I get surprised....learn that there is sooo much out there that I am missing. I can't believe that people have enough time in the day to blog, video blog, produce videos. Maybe i just need new equipment. I wanna be a video blog junkie. I wanna be What the Buck and Mr Saftey. I just found iJustine, but I probably want to be here too. If you are rich and generous, will you please buy me a new lap top, a new camera, and an iphone. I will love you forever..promise..and blog about you when I become internet famous. I was gonna post the links to all these people that I love, but I am going to be late for work, and my computer isn't cooperating.
